“This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.” – Psalm 118:23 (KJV)
I’ve been thinking about miracles.
Not necessarily the kind that make headlines. Not the kind that have thousands of people standing around in amazement. I’m talking about the miracles that happen around us every single day.
The ones we sometimes walk right past without even noticing.
I believe miracles happen every day. Sometimes, we just need the eyes to see them.
You see, life has a way of keeping us distracted. We’re busy working, paying bills, raising families, dealing with problems, and trying to figure out what tomorrow might bring.
And if we’re not careful, we become so focused on everything that’s going wrong that we overlook everything God is still doing right.
I’ve had my share of difficult days. Days when the weight of life seemed almost unbearable. Days when I questioned things, struggled with things, and wondered how everything was going to work out.
I’m not going to pretend I’ve always handled those moments perfectly. I haven’t.
But looking back over my life, I can see moments when things could have turned out very differently.
A situation that somehow worked out. A door that opened when I couldn’t see another way forward. A moment of peace in the middle of chaos. Someone showing up at just the right time.
Some people might call those things coincidences.
I don’t always see them that way.
Now, I’m not saying every little thing that happens is necessarily a supernatural miracle. We need wisdom and discernment, too.
But I do believe we can become so accustomed to God’s blessings that we stop recognizing them.
The Miracles We Overlook
Think about it.
When was the last time you stopped and thanked God for something you normally take for granted?
The sound of your children’s laughter. A conversation with someone you love. A safe trip home. An unexpected act of kindness. Another opportunity to make things right.
We often pray for God to do something extraordinary while overlooking the extraordinary gift of another ordinary day.
And sometimes, the greatest miracle isn’t that God changes our circumstances.
Sometimes, it’s that He gives us the strength to keep going through them.
Grace in Difficult Seasons
I think about the people who are hurting tonight. The ones facing sickness, financial struggles, broken relationships, grief, or battles nobody else knows about.
I would never tell someone that their suffering isn’t real or that they simply need to look harder for a miracle.
I’ve lived enough life to know that some seasons are genuinely painful.
But I would encourage them not to lose hope.
Because even in difficult seasons, there can still be moments of grace.
Jesus said in Matthew 13:16:
“But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.” (KJV)
In its biblical context, Jesus was speaking about the privilege of understanding the truths He was revealing. But those words also remind me how precious it is to recognize what God has placed before us.
Maybe tonight we don’t need another sensational headline.
Maybe we don’t need someone on the internet telling us what terrible thing is going to happen next.
Maybe we simply need to put down the phone, quiet the noise, look around, and remember that God has not stopped being God.
I don’t know what tomorrow holds.
I don’t know every answer to every question.
But I know where my faith rests.
And as long as the Lord gives me another day, I want to keep looking for His goodness, even when life is difficult.
Miracles happen every day. Sometimes, we just need the eyes to see them.
